Pizza pinwheels are a delicious pastry snack for hungry kids during the holidays, PLUS it’s an awesome way to use up puff pastry. WINNING!
Just a handful of ingredients is needed and BARELY any work. Can you call defrosting puff pastry work? OK, I can admit, they’re not the prettiest snack getting around but boy, are they delicious – and the kids don’t mind one bit, they get gobbled up real quick.
Note: Pizza pinwheels freeze really well! If you need to use that ham in a hurry, make a batch of these and pop them in the freezer ready for when the kids go back to school. They’re awesome lunch box snacks.
Pizza Pinwheels Recipe
- 2 sheets puff pastry, defrosted
- 6 tablespoons pizza sauce
- 150g pepperoni, shaved or sliced
- 150g cups grated mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 1 egg, lightly beaten (optional)
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line a tray with baking paper. Spread the sheets of puff pastry evenly with the pizza sauce.
- Place an even layer of pepperoni on the pastry sheets.
- Sprinkle the cheese over the top of both sheets, evenly.
- Sprinkle both sheets with the dried herbs.
- Roll both sheets into a log shape, peeling away the plastic as you roll.
- Slice each log into six pieces with a sharp knife. Place spiral side up on the baking trays. Brush with beaten egg (if using).
- Bake in the oven for 10 – 12 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese has melted.
